Because it has always been my goal to be the most popular guy in town I thought that Id share some observations that I have made in the last few days. For starters, I think that the CM is paid too much and looking at the list of all the city workers and the amounts that they are paid I think that they are paid too much but... and here is where it gets tricky. You have to hand it to Linda Ruffing and the town council. They have managed to continue to provide services to the town and pay these salaries and meet a budget. There are a lot of towns that can not say that. That being said I think that this is dealing with the problems of our town and society the same way that weve always dealt with them, I do think that there has to be a better way to do things and collectively(that means you too) we need to find it and the sooner the better. Secondly much has been made about the need for a strong police force and a strong chief of police. Well maybe we do but weve had one for I gather about four or five years and the crime level seems to be going up. It seems that probably a majority of the people on this particular page feel that the best way to deal with this is to up the power and presence of the force in our neighborhoods or at least maintain them at the status quo. At this point I ask you how effective has it been? We live in America, We brag about being free. But yet we have more people incarcerated than any other country on the planet. Much more than China and their population dwarfs our by comparison. Our law enforcement are paid better than most of these countries and we have more police presence than most if not all of these countries. So how effective is it really? What is it that we are missing? Perhaps our tendency to use force and a police presence in these maters is more like picking at a scab or a sore. The more we bother and coerce it the more it scars and possibly festers. Do we cut of or amputate that part of society that we do not approve of? Do we create a group of individuals over and above the laws the were meant to govern all of us? I personally dont think that is something that I would want to participate in. You? I think it is time we begin to think bigger and demand more from ourselves and our government. Think, its patriotic.
