Being a Flatlander is identifying with thoughts, feelings and - TopicsExpress

Being a Flatlander is identifying with thoughts, feelings and sense impressions and reacting to them. Flat Zen is stepping back from thoughts, feelings and sense impressions and identifying with the observer or witness of what is happening. This is what is usually taught in mindfulness or meditation practices. Three Dimensional Zen is not even identifying with the observer or witness. This is the opposite of being centered. It is life without a center. It means having no place to stand. Now the vibrant aliveness of life continues its fantastic, empty dance without the friction of hopes and disappointment. Who is there to hope or take delivery of the disappointment? Zen Master Lin-Chi expressed this as follows, Within every individual is an authentic person who has no position. This position-less space is the full fruition of the pathless path. Gratitude to Shinzen Young for some of the terminology and ideas in this post and for the Lin-Chi quote. My summary is as follows, Only understand, that there is no place to stand. How wonderful! How liberating!
