Being one of my hometowns. Kent has a history. A violent history. The entire nation was divided between the Hawks, and the Doves. What happened at Kent State is what we call Mayday. It was May of 1970. Colleges across the nation were being taken over by the students. Rumor has it as ; They blamed it on a student that yelled fire in the crowd because a dumpster caught on fire. Why the national guard of Ohio had armor piercing high velocity rounds locked and loaded and chambered is beyond me. The soldiers were already in formation and held a steady ready and aim. They were waiting for word from their Sargent. When the kid by the dumpster yelled fire, the national guardsmen fired live rounds into the crowd of students. Thus, four dead in Ohio. There were countless injured, but only four died. There was such a riot after that, the people of Kent burned almost the whole city to the ground. So, every may 4th, Mayday, the people in Kent start a little rioting. In memory of the four who died, and of the hatred we have because of what the government has done. May 4th 1970 will never be forgotten.
