Betty Giragosian 6 hrs · Today I had lunch at the VMFA and afterwards went to the Confederate Memorial Chapel to play for a bit on the newly restored pump organ. The instrument looks great, and the sound is very sweet. It no longer sounds as if it is struggling to make the sound of music. The craftsman who restored it has created something beautiful. One still must remember to pump her feet going very fast in order to keep the notes coming forth. There will be an open house at the chapel on Sunday afternoon, December 13th. Try to come for an afternoon of Advent music played on the organ, and, it is to be hoped, with choral groups, and other instrumentals. More about that later, as we work with Lee-Jackson Camp on planning this event. As I walked on the grounds with my friend, Beth OLeary, I commented what a park like setting this has become. The grass was still lush and green, and benches have been placed at strategic points, and best of all, folks were sitting on them, enjoying the day. The park that has been envisioned for so many years has come into being. The horticulturist was very busy, preparing the soil for spring blooms in the garden in front of the chapel. I had an hour of talking history with Beth, whose great grandfather, a native of Alabama, served in the Confederate Army. She is working on an exhibit detailing the history of the R. E. Lee Camp No.1 which will be housed in two rooms in the Robinson House. She has a love of history that matches ours. Share
