Beyond our tittering that the US Empire is now going the same way as its British predecessor this is far from being all good news. Forging ties with Russia might give Egypt some leverage against World Bank and Economic Foprum diktats that it scrap subsidies and privatize its industries but I doubt it in the long term. Meanwhile, as the mutant offspring of Stalinists, the Russian gangster oligarchs and their former KGB thug government is much more resolute that mass revolutionary movements must be crushed than their western counterparts - the pigs being more ruthless than the farmers in this respect. While the West was quietly thankful (at least to begin with) that Asad was butchering the Arab Spring even as Hillary Clinton (remember her?) took the high moral ground, the Russsians simply proclaimed that tyhe Arab spring was chaos and praised Asad in the name of Order. Marxs hangman of Asia was now the hangman, by proxy, of the Middle East. Gazprom is already prepariung to get its mitts on oil production in an ethnically partitioned Syria and the arrival of the Oligarchs in Egypt will not spell good news in the long term.
