Big turnout in Gunnison County for fall election: A surprising last minute turnout in the general election has swamped the Gunnison County election’s office. As a result, final numbers may not be known until Wednesday morning. The first preliminary results have the tightest race being the town of Crested Butte sales tax issue. With 628 votes counted, the issue is passing by 12 votes, 320 to 308. No votes cast today have yet been tallied. Issue 3B, the proposed mill levy override for the Gunnison School District is passing 3,096 to 2,525 in early voting. Rick Besecker is leading in the sheriff’s race over Scott Jackson 2,918 to 2,671. Debbie Dunbar is leading William Spicer in the race for County Treasurer 2,853 to 2,648. In the County Clerk’s contest, Kathy Simillion leads challenger Jane Wyman 3,249 to 2,198. County voters are supporting Mark Udall over Cory Gardner for U.S. Senate 54% to 40%. In the governor’s race, early returns show Gunnison County voters favoring John Hickenlooper 56% to 37%.
