Birds share much of the same pain receptors and nervous system that we do. And chickens share 60% of our DNA. Contrary to popular belief it is not natural or normal for hens to lay eggs every day. The modern hen is arguably the most genetically and biologically modified animal in agriculture today, yet one never hears objections or concerns to eating “artificial,” fertilized eggs that once carried embryos that hatched into beautiful newborn chicks.
