Bits and Pieces: memories of Blake Street....Jim Dee painting the house, listening to the Yankees game on Saturday afternoon. Herb Rutty shucking scallops endlessly. Harry Walden and his setter named Daisy bringing home pheasants after a successful hunt. Playing baseball in the street and moving the 4:00 PM Pratt Reed traffic. Sliding down the hill at Jack Breslin. Going to Duke Cortoskis house to watch pigeons that he raised. The tree fort in the apple tree...Tommy Drags back yard. Dickey Viembas chickens. Mr Capicatis magnificent garden and his boat in the back yard....the Seven Cs. Dennis Banning riding his go-kart on the back road to his Grandmothers. Joanne and Barbara Breslin jocks at the high school. Harry Boy Walden teaching me how to fish and shoot a BB gun. Basketball games in Dennis Bannings back yard. Pitching contests with Tommy Drag. Watching my Dad, Bunk and John Daniels coming home with bushels of flat fish and cleaning them in the back yard. Trips to Great Island with Buddy Daniels and family. Clearing the storm drain during rain storms. Ice skating on Lords Pond. First kiss...Lords Pond. Swimming...Clarks Pond. Watching the firemen rush off to the fire house on a call. My Dad, Bunk Daniels, Fred Banning, AJ Spenser, Mr. Bushnell, always the first to the firehouse. Raiding Mr. Gaudenzis apple tree. Sharon Daniels horse, Blaze. Boiling fox traps with oak chips at Harry Boys house. These are memories that are small and meaningless to most of you but are a small picture of my boyhood growing up on Blake Street. Perhaps I will at a later date, publish memories of the teenage years. But these are important to me.
