Blog from the Beach - Bantham 20/7/14 Hi All, A small note from our world today. 10:30 -Surf lifeguard training with the next lifeguards in the making.Todays itinerary, choking protocol, beach awareness questions and 200m run, 200m swim, 200m run in under 8 mins. Capped off with some great board work in the river mouth swell. Well done guys. 11:00 - IRB responded to a call of a spinal injury on Thurlestone Sands, Liam and Lewis assisted the recovery of a diver who had been caught in the shore break and the crashing wave had rammed her scuba gear into the base of her spine. The boys assisted the local lifeguards and made the lady comfortable before she was evacuated in the helicopter to Derriford. The club wish her a safe and speedy recovery. 13:00 - 16:30 Youth and Nipper training. A big thanks to all the trainers and parent helpers (without you this would not be possible) for keeping 90 kids safe and fit in the sea. A big hand to all the volunteer lifeguards, John, Matt, Pete, Liam, Pete (me)James, Ella, Kev for keeping and eye on the 1000 beach goers, 300 water users and all the manner of water craft bumping about out there! Lastly on such a beautiful sunny day in this world, thanks to all who make this lifesaving club what it is in the community it serves. Until next week.
