Bobby, my 2002 Infiniti I35 purred like a kitten for years but - TopicsExpress

Bobby, my 2002 Infiniti I35 purred like a kitten for years but recently developed a roar/noise that reminds me of a truck. The noise is immediately obvious at the first start of the day but does calm down somewhat. The roar is not obvious in park, reverse or neutral - just drive. At idle the noise tends to bother the ears and there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel. At slow speed (15-20 mph) I can detect what I can only describe as a faint gasp (like lack of air). Dealer found no exhaust problem and said idle was okay. With the passage of time I am hesitant to travel too far from home. Hope this is a sufficient description and your advice will be appreciated. Brandi N. Mobile, AL *************************** Hi, Brandi, From the brief description you stated, I suggest you check each tire tread for abnormal wear. Tire noise is common and quite often sounds like bad wheel bearings and/or other vibration-created noises. I also suggest you have a local shop test for bad wheel bearings (as mentioned above) since the car’s entire weight is supported by bearings. Hope this helps. Ultimately, you should go with a technician to test drive and share the noisy experience to help make sure he hears the same noise as you’re describing. Always better to be on the same page. I recently interviewed HENRY KOPACZ of Hankook Tire USA. Check out my chat with him for some great 4-wheeled, consumer info. CarClinicNetwork/Kopacz Best, Bobby
