Break Away The other night I was watching 20/20. The episode - TopicsExpress

Break Away The other night I was watching 20/20. The episode was entitled The children who break away. It captured several children with various forms of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). These children were tormented by what some would call irrational fears. In simple terms it was speculated that the reason for this may be linked to a glutamatergic dysfunction in the brain...there is no trigger in the brain that tells them that everything is alright. There was a preteen girl whose parents had to take her out of school because she thought that her school and friends were contaminated. In her interview she stated the she had contemplated suicide because this fear had removed her from her friends and school. She had wondered if she would be able to make it to her high school prom or have a normal life with friends. There was a 9 year-old boy whose parents had to constantly reassure him that it was safe to go to school each day. Each morning he went to school filled with anxiety. He feared something bad would happen to him or his family if he left the house. In his interview He said he wanted to live with God because his anxiety was so intense. Needless to say, my heart wept for these children. This episode revealed just how crippling fear can be if we allow it to take over our mind. It caused me to question my fears and how they can hold me back for doing what Ive been called to do. I was reminded however that with God everything is alright...He has set us free from fear and whom He has set free is free indeed. We are able to break away from our fears because He has not given us a spirit of fear, but a Spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. After years of therapy, the pre-teen girl overcame her fears and attended her high School prom and the 9 year-old boy enjoys being out of his home socializing with his friends and is helping other children who suffer from OCD. Be fearless this week. Blessings, Pastor Alicia Family Ministries
