Bryan Allo, I just opened a bottle of 74 California Cabernet Ive been keeping all these years. I cant say exactly what prompted me to open it. But Id just roasted a chicken in the oven. And Cabs are amazing with roasted chicken and this was a good chicken. Younger people may not know that 74 was an amazing vintage year in California. And it was for two reasons. The sun shone consistently and warmly that summer. The harvest was early and superb. It was also huge. This created an oddity. A glut of amazing grapes that became amazing wine. But especially the Cabs. I have a few bottles of expensive 74s left. Tonight what I opened is amazing. I love good wine. I seldom drink it because 1) I live alone and 2) the wine I have is of sufficient quality that uncorking it and recorking it, seems a crime when its best in the first few hours of being opened. I know Bryan loves good wine. So thats why I put his name here. Bryan, if you have the time, drop by. You will be amazed. I want to share this with whoever would love it. And thats anybody near enough to come to midtown and share it with me. And theres a story that goes with this bottle. Anybody up for what many contend was the best vintage of the 20th century?
