Business Improvement District MEDIA RELEASE NORTH WEST DISTRICT BUSINESS ASSOCIATION 9th April 2014 Three years of hard work has finally paid off for the North West District Business Association (NWDBA) “The votes are counted and the majority of local businesses say ‘yes’ to forming a BID, or Business Improvement District” announced Association Chair Bruce Cowan Bruce Cowan said the recent campaign gave local businesses and commercial property owners the opportunity to vote as to whether they wanted to take advantage of the Auckland Council Business Improvement District Partnering Programme. The ballot period closed on 31 March 2014, with the results showing a majority in favour of becoming a business improvement district. Phelan Pirrie, Deputy Chair, says although the majority of voters were in favour of the BID, a reasonable number voted no. “I want to acknowledge that,” he says “and tell those voters that the NWDBA Board will work very hard to ensure any doubts those business and property owners have, regarding the BID are thoroughly addressed. I would like to see those voters ending up to be our strongest advocates.” This is now a chance for local businesses to drive the business association in the direction that they wish. “While it has taken three years of preparation to get to this point, now is when all the hard work starts. This is a very exciting time for the local economy, and with a single business voice we will be able to achieve so much more than previous business associations.” says Phelan Pirrie. Bruce Cowan said the North West District Business Association will be in contact with members in the comings weeks about the upcoming AGM and nominations for the new governance Board.
