But I have Faith! - the most fundamental and vital concept in scripture many times is the misunderstood. We have glamorized faith. Spiced it up a bit. Made it seem more like hocus pocus and magic than what God intended for it to be. The result is many young, still growing Christians end up losing their faith and being disappointed in God rather than growing and coming closer to God which is the aim of real faith. You see its a circumstance we know all too well. A group of young believers pray and pray fervently for something and they claim in faith that something will happen. But the person they were all praying would be healed is not, the job they were certain they would get they did not, the person they were sure they would marry, married someone else. The result is usually disillusionment, shock and But I had Faith!. Jesus said If you had faith like a mustard seed you could tell this mountain to move and it will... well Jimmy, we had faith MORE than a mustard seed! Why didnt it work And we wonder why things didnt go our way even though we had faith. The enemy uses our so-called faith against us. He uses it as a way that believers test God after all he is the one that told Jesus to throw himself from the top of the mountain and let the angels carry Him. The truth is what we call faith really isnt that at all. Lets look at the context of the mustard seed and the moving of the mountains comment by Jesus. The disciples try and drive out a demon from a young man. They couldnt do it. Jesus cast out the demon right away. The disciples ask Jesus hey why couldnt we cast out the demon? Then Jesus gives the now famous, misquoted and misused truth, If you had faith as a mustard seed, you would tell the mountain move and it will move. Jesus was speaking of their faith IN God not in the moving of the mountain. Mountains dont move without a purpose for the mountain to move and that purpose is Gods purpose not our purpose. Many times our faith is in our FAITH rather than in God. The disciples could not drive out the demon because of the littleness of their faith in God, faith in Christ. Many times we misunderstand what it means to have faith. Our faith must be inextricably tied with our trust in God otherwise it is false faith that can be used against us by the enemy. Our faith should be that of Jesus in the Garden when he says Father if it is possible let this cup pass from me. But not my will but your will be done THAT is the epitome of the faith that God wants us to have. Our prayer should be one that claims the promises of God in what He is capable of miraculously doing for us but it should never be separated from what He has ALREADY done on our behalf. Our faith has to be a blend of believing that God can DO good things while knowing that God IS good in all things. Our faith cannot be extracted to stand alone without the required trust of let your will be done. Doctrine today has been thwarted, perverted and misguided and as a result we have given the enemy an opportunity to play with stealing our belief and trust in God. I challenge you, when things dont go as you prayed them, have faith in WHO God is rather than what you wanted Him to do for you. Trust in the Goodness of God and His Faithfulness rather than what you thought was a good thing you wanted to happen. Remember the aim of true faith is to bring you into a closer relationship with the Father, to blend your heart with His, to mold and shape your will according to His rather than you imposing your will on Him.
