By Doris Johnson-Martin Sims TO ALL ADMIRALS On Saturday, July 26, 2014, the Farragut High School Alumni Picnic Committee will be celebrating 25 years of bringing a family picnic and entertainment to the Lawndale Community. As you may know, we will have several Alumni’s entertaining us this year. We will also have a couple of community businesses with tables set up to serve us with health, insurance and investing. St. Anthony Hospital will have a table set up to monitor blood pressure for people who are interested in having it checked, and will also pass out pamphlets to educate us on our health and healthcare. Monte O’Quinn, a alumni will also have a table set up to educate people who are interested in insurance. Monte (Class of 1992) grew up in the Lawndale community; he attended Farragut, and was a standout basketball star. He is one of our many success stories who graduated and continued on to play Division 1 at Northeastern Illinois University. Monte played Pro Basketball overseas in the minor leagues. We are all very proud and like to brag about Monte’s continued success. He is also a great mentor to our neighborhood youth and gives back to the community. There will be face painting for our children too. Performing at the picnic will be our very own Superior Movement (Billy Avery, Stanley Ratcliff, David Williams, Greg Stears, and Tyrone Powell). Admirals please keep fellow Admiral, Tyrone Powell (Class of 1978) lifted up in your prayers. Tyrone is the choreographer and sings baritone for Superior Movement. Late last year, Tyrone was in an auto accident in California; his legs were badly damaged in the accident. He will perform, but will not be able to dance (and we know he used to throw down). Accompanying Superior movement will be our own Susie Wrencher and Michael Avery. Theophilus Reed who is also one of our own and one of the original founders of the Farragut High School Alumni Picnic Committee will be performing as well. We are excited to bring this event to you. Please do not forget to send in your donations. May GOD continue to bless you all; we look forward to seeing all of your beautiful faces.
