By Every Word Of God This blog is dedicated to sharing truth in order to awaken gods elect who are currently asleep. As Paul said: 2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elects sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. May he show you his truth, according to his good will. Saturday, May 28, 2011 Should We Judge? May 27, 2011 Should We Judge? In today’s world I am constantly told “judge not, that ye be not judged.” But, is this biblical? Are we as Christians told not to judge in any case? Many take Matthew 7:1 out of context. They leave out entirely most of the context (the verses following verse one) in order to make this verse agreeable to their doctrine. But when one looks at this verse within it’s entirety; within it’s contextual meaning, one will immediately see it doesn’t prohibit judging at all, but rather demands it. Matthew 7:1-5 1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brothers eye.” In verse two we see Christ explaining this mysterious saying, “2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” Christ is warning that with “what judgment you judge, you shall be judged,” not to never judge at all. His elaboration on the subject should be considered, but usually is ignored altogether; it’s almost never considered by the gainsayer’s that he was warning of unrighteous judgment, rather than judging in itself. It is my contention that this passage is very self explanatory when one reads it in it’s entirety. Christ said, “and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” This measure of judgment spoken of is the issue at hand, not judgment alone. One judges various things/issues everyday of his life; the hypocrites fail to see this logical and rational statement. In verse three, Christ further expounds, “3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” Do you have a “mote” in your “eye” while attempting to “judge” your “brother’s beam?” Are you doing the very things, or worse, yourself? How then are you fit to judge your brother? Christ then says, “Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?” Can a murderer judge a murderer? Should he? Would not his judgment be flawed? How could he see “clearly” enough to judge such a matter? Should one living in sin judge another doing the same? Verse 5 says, “Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brothers eye.” So then it is only after your own eye has been made clean that you can then judge rightly your brother. It is my contention, which I believe to be based on sound words, that this passage simply warns of unrighteous judgment and, in effect demands righteous judgment; to the saving of one’s very soul. There is no logical or sound way a man can interpret this to mean we aren’t to judge. God demands righteous judgment throughout the scriptures. Why should this particular passage be any different? It’s not! Wicked debased minds want you to believe it is. They don’t like being judged, and yet, they themselves judge in hypocrisy when they declare, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” They themselves obviously don’t hold fast to their own doctrine seeing they have already “judged” in this twist of scripture by accusing you of sinning through the ‘partial’ verse quoted, which proves them to be hypocrites in itself. The scriptures are full of recorded evidence written by men inspired by God himself which declares we must in fact judge; yet these hypocrites will encourage their followers to do otherwise and hypocritically so. In order to understand judgment we must always consult the scriptures. The scriptures declare, Deuteronomy 12:32 “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.” And yet men find it convenient to say “Judge not, that ye be not judged” adding to God’s words. For this doctrine is not contained within scripture; it is a perverse twisting of scripture, which men will ultimately answer to God for. They have added this false doctrine to his word breaking this very commandment in Deuteronomy. Of course, most, if not all, will tell you that the old testament no longer applies, ignorantly. (see 2Tim. 3:16) If this commandment of God is no longer binding, then God is a liar. I assure you He is not and cannot lie. (Titus 1:2) God told the Israelites, Deuteronomy 1:16 “And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear [the causes] between your brethren, and judge righteously between [every] man and his brother, and the stranger [that is] with him.” Does this sound like, “judge not, that ye be not judged?” I think not. There will come a day when God himself will judge this world, but for now we, as Christians, are bound by his word, his truth, to judge righteously, not of our own judgment, but of his, which he has already declared throughout scripture. Many evil men would have us keep silent in direct contradiction to God‘s law. We do not judge by our own standards, but by God’s; this is righteousness. Christ said, John 8:15 “Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.” Not even Christ, being a fleshy man, judged anyone. Christ further said, John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me” Is your judgment your own, or God’s? Haven’t you heard what God has already said? Can you “hear” or are you deaf to God’s words? God’s word says of Moses, Exodus 7:1 “And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.” This word “god” is Strong’s # 430 elohiym Pronunciation el·ō·hēm (Key) Part of Speech masculine noun Root Word (Etymology) Plural of אֱלוֹהַּ (H433) TWOT Reference 93c Outline of Biblical Usage 1) (plural) a) rulers, judges b) divine ones c) angels d) gods 2) (plural intensive - singular meaning) a) god, goddess b) godlike one c) works or special possessions of God d) the (true) God e) God This is the same word “god” used in Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD” This word “Lord” meaning, according to Strong’s Strong’s # h3068 Yehovah Pronunciation yeh·hō·vä (Key) Part of Speech proper noun with reference to deity Root Word (Etymology) From הָיָה (H1961) TWOT Reference 484a Outline of Biblical Usage Jehovah = the existing One 1) the proper name of the one true God a) unpronounced except with the vowel pointings of 0136 God is the existing one. The name Joshua means, Joshua meaning and name origin Joshua \j(o)- shua\ as a boys name is pronounced JOSH-yoo-ah. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Joshua is Jehovah is salvation. Short form of Jehoshua. Biblical: Joshua was an attendant and helper to Moses during the Israelites 40-year trek through the Sinai wilderness. He was appointed by God to lead the Israelites after the death of Moses. Josue is a Spanish form. Painter Joshua Reynolds; director Joshua Logan; actors Josh Lucas, Josh Hartnett. Baby names that sound like Joshua are Jasha and Josia. View a list of the 8 names that reference Joshua. thinkbabynames/meaning/1/Joshua Jesus’ name was said in scripture to be called “Immanuel.” Many atheist will argue that this wasn’t what his parents called him; thus it lied. But, these atheist fail to realize the meaning behind any given name. These two verses, Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” Aren’t referring to his name, but his position as God/Judge. I could go on for pages about the meaning of names, but wont, as it doesn’t necessarily pertain to the subject at hand, and would only complicate the matter. It is well known by any called “Christian” that judgment has been given to the Son of God (Jesus Christ). As Matthew 1:23 says that it is interpreted as “God with us.” Judge with us!!! The Judge!!! Christ, the Messiah!!! Christ was/is God (the Judge) per his own words, Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” All AUTHORITY!!! This includes judgment, as Christ also said, John 12:48 “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” On the last day Christ very words will judge those who do not believe. Peter said, 1Peter 4:17 “For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?” How is this to be accomplished if we are to, “judge not, that you be not judged?” As we Have demonstrated here, clearly this isn’t telling us not to judge. Peter, the one Christ named so (meaning little stone, which has implications of itself; Peter‘s name was actually Simon but he was a little stone in a big house; the house of God; Christ being the cornerstone which holds the house/Church together), says it starts with us. As Christians we are commanded to judged one another, and Paul did. Paul said, 1Corinthians 5:1-3 “1It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his fathers wife. 2And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,” As well as Christ who said, John 8:26 “I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him” Christ here explicitly states “I have many things to say and to judge of you:” And yet, John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” John 8:16 “And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me” Christ judgment was his Father’s judgment, not his own. He judged righteously in that fact alone; as all Christians should. Christ said, Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” Moses said, Deuteronomy 12:8 “Ye shall not do after all [the things] that we do here this day, every man whatsoever [is] right in his own eyes.” In other words, you shall only do what God says; what is right in His eyes, according to His judgment, so long as it aligns with “His Word” is righteous, and very much necessary. Not even Christ judged according to his own standards. He never, Deuteronomy 12:32 “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.” Proverbs 30:6 “Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” He was absolutely perfect. There are two entire books called “Judges” and yet we are told, “judge not, that ye be not judged.” That my friend is a blatant contradiction. The point in this article is to prove that without judgment we are hopelessly lost and therefore cannot live up to what God has already declared to be right. Of course, this judgment should never be our own, but God’s. We should never judge beyond what the scriptures say, lest we sin. If you believe anyone has sinned, then you must prove it with scriptural evidence, otherwise it is simply “your” judgment. That being said, you’re sinning against God, as well as whomever you’re falsely accusing. Men are inherently wicked (Psalm 51:5) so this will happen more often than not. Another verse that is often brought up is, Romans 2:2-3 “2But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?” What things are Paul referring to? Most people ignore the preceding verses which explain this in chapter 1. Paul said, Romans 1:28-32 “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” These are the attributes of a sinner, which Paul says these sort are having pleasure in. Paul here is speaking of people who are hypocrites; accusing those who practice sin and yet they themselves practice the same sin and have “pleasure” in them that do so. In chapter 2:3 Paul says, “And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?” These people we’re practicing the same type of behaviors/sins as those they judged to be sinners. Paul’s admonishment was concerning hypocrisy, not judging. Paul is here speaking to a group of babes in Christ. Due to their recent conversions they had much to learn. Throughout the scriptures men are called to judge, but not by their own judgment. Such judgment is godly, so long as it pertains to God’s word, rather than our own thoughts/ideas. There is yet but one more scripture I have seen quoted in order to disprove my doctrine. James 4:11-12 “11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” This verse is speaking of “11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law:” Nowhere does this say to not judge. This is speaking of “speaking evil” of your brother, not refraining from judging. This person has gone beyond what scripture says and has judged his brother in his freedom from the law, hence, making himself a judge of God’s law. I have already spoken of going beyond what is written in scripture and how it is unrighteous, so I see no need to further elaborate here at this point. Throughout the scriptures we see many prophets of God being sent to Israel in order to judge them, according to God’s word, not their own ideas. Judges 4:4 “And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time” Ezekiel 22:2 “Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations” Ezekiel 20:4 “Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge [them]? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:” Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” The scriptures say, 1Corinthians 6:2 “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?” If we are to, in the future, judge the world, how much more should we judge the things pertaining to this life? If we do not judge, how can we then Ezekiel 22:2 “Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations” Ezekiel 20:4 ““Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge [them]? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:” Without judgment there is no correction. The scriptures declare, Proverbs 15:10 “Correction [is] grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: [and] he that hateth reproof shall die.” And Proverbs 12:1 “Correction [is] grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: [and] he that hateth reproof shall die.” If we cannot judge, and thus must wait for Christ return to be judged, then how will we ever make any necessary corrections to our lives in order that we might be saved? The man who says, “judge not, that ye be not judged” is the very man who, “Correction [is] grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: [and] he that hateth reproof shall die.” Are you ready to die? The scriptures contain many verses which pertain to correction; if we neglect to correct our brothers, how can we claim to love them? Do you correct your children? The scriptures say, Proverbs 22:15 “Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” Many in today’s world believe it to be very evil to utilize corporal punishment. In many cases it is said to be child abuse. I do not advocate child abuse, but I also do not advocate leaving a child to go in his own ways. Correction is very much needed today, in our children especially. The world has gone the wrong way. They teach/preach against correction, especially where children are involved, and just look around and see the outcome of that nonsense. Whenever I hear, “judge not, that ye be not judged” I think to myself that the individual who uttered it is insane. He himself has already judged me, and yet that is okay. When one declares such an asinine statement, I wonder if he bothers to correct his own children or if he/she has thought of the contradiction involved in judging their actions compared to what he/she just stated. It is very sad that today this “judge not, that ye be not judged” has been applied to our own children. We live in a world where parents refuse to judge their own children or to correct them. This doctrine started in church, and soon spread to our homes. This is a very evil doctrine not to be found in God’s declared word; one which if utilized at home will produce the most rebellious sort of children; who are children of their upbringing. Never in history have we seen so many undisciplined children, who run the streets, girls getting pregnant, boys in jail, drug abuse etc…why would our churches be any different? After all, they are the ones declaring “judge not, that ye be not judged” without considering the outcome of such foolishness. The scriptures proclaim, Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” But where judgment ceases or doesn‘t exist, training is nonexistent. Are we not children of God? Do we not require training in the “way?” Why then do we teach “judge not” to our children? What type of depraved individual teaches such an asinine doctrine to his own children? If you love your child you will, Proverbs 23:13 “Withhold not correction from the child: for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die” The rod of correction is judgment. This rod will beat out the wickedness. Don’t get me wrong. This is metaphorical, not literal. Nonetheless, judgment and discipline go hand in hand. When we “judge” one another, according to God’s word, we are being beaten with this “rod” which will save our soul. This is the chastening of our Lord, which the scriptures proclaim, Proverbs 3:11 “My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:” If you are waiting for God himself to step down off his throne and chasten you, it will be too late for your soul when he does. Jesus said, Luke 16:29 “Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.” Today is the day of salvation, hear the prophets of God, his Word, Hebrews 2:3 “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard [him];” If we neglect to judge one another, we are in effect neglecting the very salvation spoken of here. Judgment brings correction, which is in scant supply these days. If judgment starts with the house of God; where is it, where has it gone? I’ll tell you where it went. “judge not, that ye be not judged.” This most asinine doctrine has cost many their soul. I have heard it said many times, “keep your eyes on God and not on man.” This is yet another asinine statement. This in effect says, “judge not” Don’t worry about the sin the guy in the pew next to you is living in, just ignore it, and pray for him. NONSENSE!!!! The scriptures demand judgment. Paul said, 1 Corinthians 5:6 “Your glorying [is] not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?” Is your church leavened? Are you glorying in sin or are you correcting those taking part in such activities contrary to God’s word? In another place we are told, 2 Thessalonians 3:14 “And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed” But if we are to, “judge not, that ye be not judged” How can we perform this duty? This one verse, taken out of context, has destroyed God’s righteous law; making it of no effect. When you refuse to judge because you don’t want to lose a friend you aren’t loving God almighty with all your heart, soul and might. You love the world and the things in it; making yourself the enemy of God (James 4:4). Who will you align yourself with, God, or the world? Posted by Joshua Kelley at 11:41 AM
