Bye bye Pablo. This is a good thing for the Giants. There are other 3b, albeit not quite as strong as Sandoval that arent going to run the giants 20m a year for half a decade. With a questionable bullpen, perforated and unreliable rotation, a below average defense at best, and holes in the outfield and infield, its time for the Giants to rebuild. Winning World Series after World Series is fun, but it can come at a cost and the Giants are seeing it now. The Giants are not the 1990s New York Yankees, the depth of talent on the team is not inexhaustible and weve begun to see the deepening and lengthening cracks in a team that limped through the second half of the season and into the playoffs only to explode and take another series on the back of Madison Bumgarner. its fun to talk about the 2014 World Series and ignore the glaring flaws that were on prominent display, but unless fixed, the limping and gasping of the second half of the 2014 season has a chance of being the entire season next year. Lack of timely hitting, shut down by pitchers who arent known as shut down pitchers, an all-star former MVP catcher who couldnt muster more than a single, and a rotation that veritably imploded under the stress of the playoffs. With the ERA hovering at 9.35, the starters (asides from Madison Bumgarner) proved why they were either released or used as trade bait. I like Peavy and Hudson, but there is no denying their inefficiency in the playoffs, and as such, with the wild card in Lincecum and Matt Cains iffy return from season ending injury and surgery, the Giants should be on the lookout out for pitching prospects that have come up and will be coming up in the winter baseball talks. Pitchers such as Taijuan Walker and John Gray are obviously out of the question for the Giants. With their respective teams gearing up for competiveness (see Seagers 7yr/100m contract) the Giants need to look elsewhere for their pitching woes. To replace Peavy the Giants might look towards a more middle of the Road pitcher, someone such as Wandy Rodriguez or Kyle Kendrick. You can assume that pitching in a park with ATTs BPF we would see a drop in ERA for both of these pitchers. The Giants will probably avoid spending more than 155-160m this year in Salary cap, which effectively gives them about 35million to work with. With this 35 million, they need to replace Peavy, replace Sandoval, Between Stoffel and Shirley, the Giants will have potential mid season starters to call on from the Grizzlies, but neither have been tested in the Majors and if the Giants are looking to be a competitive team this year they need to avoid bringing their prospects up before theyre ready.
