CASTING AFRO-LATINO, AFRO-CARIBBEAN, AFRICAN & AFRICAN AMERICAN ACTORS Were auditioning Afro-Latino, African, Afro Caribbean or African-American actors with fluent Spanish and the ability to do an Afro Cuban dialect. We need identifiably Black, Spanish-speaking actors for a series of developmental readings of Good Bread Alley by April Yvette Thompson at New York Theatre Workshop in July. The play is set in 1926 Miami, so experience with classical text and period/style work required. These roles sing, but not legit or Broadway; the music is the folk music, work songs and lullabies of the Gullah and Afro Cuban traditions from the 19th century. The truth of the song is more important than the notes. Please submit headshot/resumes, as well as a link to a reel if possible to goodbreadalley@gmail ASAP. BEATRIZ DE LOS REYES Y SANTIESTEBAN, 20-28, Afro-Latina is the color of chocolate-red clay, crowned by Yemaya with a thick Afro Cuban accent; she is the kind of woman who dies with her pumps on and her lipstick fresh. She is a gentle, but persistent fire; capable of healing broken hearts, quieting shattered spirits and wooing the wind to sing her song. She makes the palm trees wish they were men. She speaks Afro-Cuban Spanish and the ritual language of Santeria. CILO DEL MONTE Y SANTIESTEBAN 40-55, Afro Latino, is the color of bittersweet chocolate, crowned by Chango with a thick, lyrical Afro Cuban accent; he is a compact, Afro-Cuban man with a soft step and quiet rivers of understanding. A Babalawo from Santiago de Cuba, he is Oriente a carpenter by trade who who listens to the conch shell’s call and conspires in the realm of the ancestors: a place where deep compassion and love are the food that most revolutionaries eat. Gentle beyond knowing, wise beyond understanding, he fights no battles he cannot win Creative Team goodbreadalley.weebly
