CBI may not name IB officer NEW DELHI, JUNE 29 DC CORRESPONDENT Ishrat case: IB boss may figure in supplementary chargesheet In the backdrop of the tussle between Union home ministry and the CBI over the issue of probing the role of Rajendra Kumar, special director of Intelligence Bureau, in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, the agency is unlikely to name him in its first chargesheet, expected to be filed on July 4. However, sources said that his name may be mentioned by the CBI in its supplementary chargesheet to be filed in the first week of August. But Mr Kumar is schedule to retire on July 31. The MHA made it clear that CBI has not sufficient evidence to arrest or prosecute Mr Kumar in the conspiracy to carry out the fake encounter in which Ishrat Jahan and three others were killed in Gujarat nine years ago. An MHA official said “CBI has shared evidence with the home ministry after which the MHA told the agency that this does not show Mr Kumar was part of conspiracy to carry out the encounter. There is not enough evidence against the senior IPS officer.”
