CHAPTER 4 JNANA YOGA OR THE PATH OF RENUNCIATION WITH KNOWLEDGE “Although I am unborn (birth-less) and My transcendental body never deteriorates, and I am the Lord of all beings I manifest Myself through my own Yogamaya (divine potency), keeping my Nature (Prakriti) under my control.” By calling himself birthless and deathless the Lord means to say that He never takes birth, as ordinary beings do, nor dies, yet He appears taking birth and dying like all ordinary beings, even so the Lord of all created beings appears like ordinary human beings. When he disappears from their midst they take Him to have perished. Keeping His primordial Nature under control, the Lord manifests Himself through his Yogamaya. Primordial Nature brings the world into being, whereas the Yogamaya is the divine potency of the Lord, or in other words Transcendental Power. Yogamaya refers to the free will of the God, His incomprehensible power, the assumption of imperfection by perfection, of lowliness by majesty, of weakness by power is the mystery of the universe; it is maya from the logical perspective . Lord Krishna asserts that even though He enters material nature which is under His absolute control by His own resolve through His inner strength known as yogamaya He is never stripped of His supreme transcendental attributes and imperishable potencies as Sovereign Lord of all creation even though His external manifestation is apparently human. The Supreme Lord Krishna assumes forms suitable to time, place and circumstances in regards to celestial beings, the demigods, terrestrial beings, and humans. He manifests himself as if He were of their nature according to His desire. Being unborn yet He incarnates in many forms whenever and wherever He chooses whereas for material beings they are forcefully born impelled by their karma or the bondage caused from reactions to past actions. The query may be posed that if the Supreme Lords awareness is not veiled like Arjunas then how is it that He manifests Himself? To allay this misgiving Lord Krishna replies He is unborn having an eternal body; His body is entirely divine without being the consequence of any earlier actions and manifests itself by His own potency for the benefit of all the worlds. Furthermore the description of the Lord Krishnas divine form have been well portrayed in the Vedic scriptures the most precise being known as sac-cid- ananda or comprised of eternity, knowledge and bliss. He Himself declares that being the omniscient, all-pervading and invincible Supreme Lord of all possessing unlimited forms; He manifests Himself by His internal potency known as yogamaya. Therefore, it is clear that in spite of His being in the material world, He is the same unborn, eternal form of bliss and knowledge, changeless in His transcendental body and intelligence. Factually, His appearance and disappearance is like the suns rising, moving before us, and then disappearing from our eyesight; there is nothing conceivable or indescribable that is impossible for Lord Krishna.
