CHARGES FOR VIOLENT CONDUCT FOLLOWING KAMUZU BARRACKS VERSUS MAFCO F.C ON 12th OCTOBER, 2014 The above captioned subject matter refers: Background On 12th October, 2014, there was a TNM Super League game involving Kamuzu Barracks the hosts and Mafco F.C the visitors at Dedza Stadium. After the match Kamuzu Barracks players lead by Ben Hojani (number 18) and Team Manager James Matewere for Kamuzu Barracks manhandled the referee Duncan Lengani contrary to article 21 (6) of the SULOM Rules and Regulations as read with FIFA Disciplinary code article 49. Charge of misconduct The Disciplinary Hearing sat on Thursday 23rd October, 2014 as planned and was chaired by a seasoned football administrator Charles Kapichi. The outcomes are as follows: (1) KB player Ben Hojani has been found guilty of unsporting behavior towards a match official and has been charged with the same count in line with Article 49 1 subsection (a) of the FIFA Disciplinary code. Therefore he is suspended for the next four matches. (2) Charges against KB team manager Matewere were dropped as the referee disclosed that he erred in reporting that Matewere threw a bottle at him when in reality he didnt. He saw the team manager carrying a bottle of water in his hands and he thought he wanted to throw it at the officiating panel. (3) The referee failed to control the situation as he didnt caution Hojani with a red card when the player charged at the referee. The panel therefore recommends to the NRC to advise its members to be applying the laws of the game in full so that situation like these should be easily dealt with on the ground and not in the boardroom. (4) There is no sufficient evidence to demonstrate that the referees stop watch and whistle were lost during the incident. Therefore it is inappropriate to ask KB to reimburse the same. SULOM
