CITY OF ALVA JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Swimming Pool Manager DEPARTMENT: Swimming Pool REPORTS TO: City Business Manager FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Seasonal GRADE: 2 SALARY: $8.21 to $11.37 per hour NATURE OF WORK This position is responsible for the daily pool operation; establishing schedules, organizing events, meeting community needs; instructing swimming classes; maintaining records; and supervising employees and the public. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Collects pool revenue for the purpose of completing pool transactions and making deposits. • Coordinates community activities at the swimming pool for the purpose of establishing schedules, organizing events, scheduling adequate personnel and meeting community needs. • Instructs students (e.g. swimming lessons) for the purpose of improving swimming skills and meeting program objectives and requirements. • Performs personnel administrative function at the pool manager’s discretion (e.g training, supervising, evaluating, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary city/program objectives are achieved. • Performs pool chemistry testing for the purpose of ensuring appropriate chemistry levels and maintaining compliance with established record keeping procedures. • Prepares a wide variety of reports (e.g. attendance, financial, injury, operations, maintenance, etc.) for the purpose of complying with administrative requirements. • Purchases equipment, materials, concessions and other pool supplies for the purpose of supporting the daily activities at the pool. • Supervises customers and employees for the purpose of monitoring behavior and meeting the City of Alva objectives within areas of responsibility. • Maintains pool sanitation and cleanliness on a daily basis with or without the assistance of other pool or city personnel. • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Revised: March 2014 Page 1 • Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED High School Diploma or Equivalent required, some college preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Supervises Swimming Pool Lifeguards SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED Criminal/Traffic Background Clearance Post Offer/Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Fit Test CPR/First Aid Certificates Life Guard Certification KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally shift skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: overseeing program financial activities; developing effective working relationships; preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records; administering personnel policies and procedures; general pool management of safety requirements. Knowledge is required to perform mathematics; read technical information, compose a variety of documents; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include, personnel relationships, personnel allocations, safety practices and procedures; and pool maintenance and operations. Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or other events; use job related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include; providing leadership, direction and team building; communicating with persons of varied educational and cultural backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; working independently under time constraints to meet deadlines and schedules; organizing and communicating information and concepts setting priorities; working as part of a team; analyzing situations and making accurate decisions; working with multiple projects; dealing with frequent interruptions and changing work priorities. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
