CONGRATULATIONS EHS STUDENTS! Nicolai Bonca and Aaron Boaitey were recently selected to attend Boys State and Morgan Miller was selected to attend Girls State. The American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs. American Legion posts select high-school juniors to attend the program. The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a separate but similar program for young women called Girls State. The purpose of Girls State is to increase awareness and knowledge of government processes while learning about the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship. It is an honor to be selected to participate in Boys State and Girls State. Congratulations to Melanie Hercules, Jennifer Lopez and Briseida Miranda who were selected to receive the Girls Inc. National Scholarship. After competing with other students throughout Southern California, the three girls will each receive a $20,000 college scholarship. Cassie Dillon, Alyssa McKay, Jennifer Torres, and Vanessa Torres were selected to receive the Nick Reed Scholarship and will each receive $2500 towards college.
