CORNISH & PROUD? I think nearly everyone who was born in this - TopicsExpress

CORNISH & PROUD? I think nearly everyone who was born in this incredible place and a good number of others who live and work among us who originated elsewhere are justifiably and fiercely proud of what nature has endowed us with. It is interesting and great fun to note the pride and the passion that such things as the order with which jam and cream is applied to a split or whether a pasty ought to be top or side crimped are discussed. This issue elicited a huge number of responses, everyone seems to have an opinion which is good because you cannot beat getting people talking about matters of common interest. However how many of you are aware of or even care that presently the Cornish face the biggest threat to their unique social structure and environment ever in the form of a feeding frenzy of speculative development that threatens to sweep us and our culture into the dustbin of history. Yes we do need some truly affordable houses for our children but what we really truly need are jobs that actually provide a living wage for those who are already here rather than unbridled housing development that artificially ramps up our population with little consideration of employment provision or the creaking infrastructure that underpins it. Health care and social services are beyond full stretch as swingeing cuts bite deep into already reduced budgets yet the developers in conjunction with planners seek to cram ever more people into our Cornish countryside which ought to be producing food not endless traffic congestion. With this in mind I implore you all to stop and think and apply the same pride and passion to the defence of the Cornwall that makes us all so proud which may not be around for much longer unless something is done and you good people of Cornwall really are the only ones who can do it.
