COWJEWS and INDIANS to premiere at San Francisco DocFest (June 15, 19) and Long Island International Film Expo (July 15) There are several reasons why the Native American (and Jewish) community will be astounded when they watch the new film, CowJews and Indians, when it comes to San Francisco DocFest (June 15, 19) and Long Island International Film Expo (July 15). The first shock will come when, after they see the film, they will actually be able to understand its title. And dont think that CowJews and Indians is the full title of the film. Please! The full title is CowJews and Indians: How Hitler Scared My Relatives—and I Woke Up in an Iroquois Longhouse with a Picture of Jesus, Reminding Me—for the Wrong Reason—That I Owe the Mohawks Rent. Then, of course, there is the films premise: My Jewish family lost its home to the Nazis and fled to America. A few years ago, I decided to reject the reparations model, return the reparations to the occupiers of our home in Germany—and I go to Germany to get our home back. Arriving in Germany, I quickly realize Im a hypocrite: Here I am complaining about the property taken from my ancestors, when in America Im living on—and profiting from—the land taken from the Native Americans. And then I have an idea: If Germany owes me for sixty five years of back rent—and I owe the Native Americans for sixty five years of back rent— why not let the Native Americans collect directly from Germany and cut out the middleman? Four Native Americans go to Germany and execute the assigned claim collection strategy. In the process, I discover a new solution to Native American dispossession, a solution never seriously proposed in the 500 years since Columbus, a solution shockingly late in arrival. Its strange that no one ever thought of it. Is that premise enough for you? The film also places a question mark over the audiences synagogue and church services—if theyre old-fashioned enough to go. CowJews introduces a new dust jacket/book cover for all prayer books, hymnals, missiles and Bibles that say on the cover, The verses in this prayer book are printed on stolen paper* (*Paper from forests growing in America—the land stolen from the Native Americans. (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED IMAGE AND VIDEO) Finally, CowJews shows how every image of Jesus that you see in any church or in any home recapitulates Native American history so precisely that images of Jesus serve as an actual 3-part mnemonic device for Native American history—to such an extent that if a student saw this film and then was taking a test on Native American history and was wearing, say, a pendant with a picture of Jesus, that student could be accused of cheating! Thats why Phil Tuckett, Artistic Director of DocUtah, said, I cant look at a painting of Jesus in the same way since I saw your film. So, dont think Tuckett was happy when he had to put it in his festival.) ------- Im hoping you can share this San Francisco/Long Island premiere info with all your relations (which merely means the ganze mishpachah (look it up) to the Jews but to the Native Americans means absolutely everybody in the entire world and absolutely everything in the world)––so asking Native Americans to share anything with all their relations is not a small request, believe me! :-) For your friends and relations outside of San Francisco, CowJews will also play at: DocUtah (sometime in September) docutah/ --------------- Ritz Film Festival (Winter Haven, Florida, June 22) events.wfla/winter_haven_fl/events/show/370807375-cowjews-and-indians. ----------------- Stommish Film Festival (near Bellingham, Washington, June 13) stommish/film.php -------------------------- Pineapple Underground Film Festival [Hong Kong] (date to be announced) puff-festival.org ---------------------------------- Heres a link to San Francisco DocFest roxie/ai1ec_event/docfest-cowjews-indians/ Heres a link to Long Island International Film Expo longislandfilmexpo/Docevent/cowjews-and-indians-how-hitler-scared-my-relatives-and-i-woke-up-in-an-iroquois-longhouse-with-a-picture-of-jesus-reminding-me-for-the-wrong-reason-that-i-owe-the-mohawks-ren/ Heres a link to a trailer that has yet to do the film justice: youtu.be/-E7fftYF8M0 Here is a link/password to a Vimeo of the film: https://vimeo/97043573 Password: cow108jews93 Here is a link to the website, which gives everyone the wrong impression: cowjewsandindians Heres a link to the Montreal Gazette review (what do they know?): montrealgazette/entertainment/mtlfest/Festival+nouveau+cin%C3%A9ma+CowJews+Indians+Marc+Halberstadt/9016745/story.html Speaking of reviews, CowJews and Indians has evoked wonderfully positive—and wonderfully, even better— negative reviews, some of which which appear below: REVIEWS “Borat meets Michael Moore” ––Chris Busch The Filmosophers: (“We help the film fan avoid the flim flam.”) ------------------------ It totally blew me away…amazing…hysterical… —Tamara Kramer, Editor, Shtetl Montreal Magazine -------------------- ...subversively comic approach to deadly serious issues of genocide.
