Caffeine May Help Your Memory: Caffeine is the worlds favorite stimulant. According to research from U.S. National Institutes for Health, the average cup of coffee can range in strength from 160 mg to 330 mg of caffeine. But energy, alertness and maybe a new personal best arent all you have to look forward to after a dose. A study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience suggests that certain memories can be strengthened for as long as 24 hours after consuming at least 200 mg of caffeine. More than 100 casual caffeine users, those consuming less than 500 mg weekly, were asked to view images of familiar objects right before drinking a beverage containing 200 mg of caffeine or placebo. The next day, they were shown more images -- some the same as the previous day and others slightly altered. Caffeine helped these subjects distinguish between the original and similar images. So its potential might not be limited to physical performance.
