Caguioa rues Chua exit Arman Carandang [ Source: Journal ] - July 17, 2013 Reigning PBA most valuable player Mark Caguioa raised this point in reaction to shocking turn of events within Barangay Ginebra San Miguel that saw the sudden resignation of coach Alfrancis Chua. “Matagal na ako rito, laging nagkaka-reshuffle sa mga players. If there is always change, syempre, ‘di ka makakakuha ng chemistry, so laging mawawala rin yun,” the 6-foot-1 shooting guard told an online media. The Gin Kings team leader was the first one to show opposition to Chua’s resignation viewed by many as an offshoot of the team’s frequent involvement in trades and endless reshuffling of the coaching staff. Caguioa, one of the team’s consistent scorers that earned him the monicker “The Spark,” nevertheless said he is hoping Chua will reconsider his decision in time for the Governor’s Cup slated to start on August 14. Caguioa also took exception to cite Chua’s contribution to the team’s impressive showing all the way to the finals of the last Commissioner’s Cup. “Siya rin ang nakapagpabalik sa magandang laro uli ng backcourt tandem kong si (Anthony) Jayjay Helterbrand at Kerby Raymundo maging sa kumpiyansa ni (Robert) Labagala sa Finals,” stressed Caguioa. Chua confirmed his resignation in a text message to People’s Tonight yesterday, although he declined to give the reason for it. “Oo, nag-resign na ako,” said Chua. Chua announced his resignation during the team’s first practice Monday at Xavier High School gymnasium in Greenhills, San Juan City. Allan Caidic, who served as assistant coach for Ginebra before he was pulled out to help De La Salle University in its UAAP campaign, showed up to supervise the Gin Kings’ practice yesterday. The former PBA hotshot clarified he’s not taking over permanently. “I’m just helping Ginebra now. But we’re full-time with La Salle,” said Caidic. The PBA’s Triggerman originally coached the Ginebra franchise in 1999, leading a team featuring rookie Mark Caguioa to a Cinderella run in the All-Filipino tournament in 2001. He was replaced as coach by Siot Tanquingcen in 2002 and has alternately served as team manager and assistant coach for Ginebra over the years. Last month, Caidic was assigned full-time to La Salle to assist Juno Sauler, another member of the Ginebra coaching staff who was appointed coach of the Green Archers. _maw_
