Calling All Responsible Dog Owners (All “Breeds” Welcome): One Million Mutt March to End Breed-Specific Legislation (BSL, aka pit bull ban) in Ontario. Loki the Jack Russell Terrier believes in canine equality (terrier solidarity especially!). Not one to stand on the side-lines while harm comes to her friends, Loki says: come on out! The One Million Mutt March to End BSL is being held in unity with the One Million Pibble March to End BSL on Washington, DC. This is North America: Government has no business telling responsible dog owners what breed of dog they may or may not keep as family pets—as a matter of basic justice, its that simple. BSL is also costly to enforce and ineffective—being a fear-based, reactionary knee-jerk response to media hysteria and a waste of taxpayer monies and resources in turn. BSL has been repealed and/or preempted in a vast number of US states--17 states already ban BSL (more than one-third) with another six bringing forth bills likewise seeking to ban BSL in their jurisdictions just since the start of the New Year, including among them South Dakota which is set to become the first state this year--18th overall--to ban BSL; a very clear and growing trend and, if passed, will bring the total number of states that ban BSL to 23 or about half (and still counting). Rather than ban so-called breeds and/or kill innocent family pets based on fear (which is irrational by its very definition), it’s time for Ontario to likewise repeal BSL and look to ownership practices, holding owners accountable and responsible for dogs regardless of breed that are actually dangerous instead.
