@CampusEkiti EKSU May Collapse!!! Cautions Gov. Fayemi against unpopular policies# Ado-Ekiti, July 4, 2013 (NAN) The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ekiti State University chapter, on Thursday advised the state government not to ignite another round of industrial dispute through unfavourable policies. The Chairman of the union, Dr. Ayan Adeleke, gave the advice at a news conference in Ado-Ekiti. He alleged that Gov. Kayode Fayemi, who is also the visitor to the institution, had not demonstrated adequate commitment to the welfare of lecturers and well-being of the institution since he assumed office . He said that unless something was urgently done to address the situation, the institution, might collapse. ``Government has continued to deliberately under fund the university so that it does not rise at par with others in the country. "The University generates over N400 million monthly out of which the sum of N380 million goes to salaries but only N210 million is released monthly by government as subvention". The ASUU chairman also accused the state government of introducing a new tax regime that had impacted negatively on university staff. He urged the governor to order the stoppage of the tax, to avoid another round of trade dispute that might be difficult for anyone to resolve. "We, ASUU, in this university, use this medium to warn the governor and his agents to desist from their Machiavellian approaches to the university. "Let it be known to government that we are not ready to pay the tax that will take away food from our tables," he warned. Source: (NAN)
