Cancer Support for Dummies (What Not to Say to Loved Ones with Cancer) I have listed several phrases of what-not-to-say, followed by an instinctual sarcastic (but true) remark and then followed up with its catergory of why it is not appropriate. Instinctual Sarcastic Response Yes, its a new diet called Body by Cancer. All the new rage. Thanks for reminding me I was fat before my tumor tried to kill me Category: Not helpful, Not comforting or Supportive. Phrase: How are you going to pay for this? Instinctual Sarcastic Response: On the way to the ER, I googled an estimate on living versus what it cost for a funeral.... anywhere from 8 to 10k. So I figure, what the heck, Ill do the surgery since that was 7K out of pocket. Hashtag #winning. Category: Not helpful, Not comforting or Supportive, None of your business Phrase: Is it real cancer?
