Captains log - Coachella Day 1 Ill hold off until after the festival to write about the #sweatymollypeople and over-priced slices of pizza... Here is day 1s music in review: ASAP Ferg: First act of the day I caught... Good energy, good crowd response. His group looked like they were having fun...so were we. TRAP LORD! AFI: Arguably the only hard rock band on Fridays lineup... Same playlist as their most recent show in Florida, but either way, still enjoyable to watch. Davey Havoc is a little on the dramatic side, but your girl still wants a piece so keep her away from the stage. Carnage: Chorus to chorus with big tracks + a lot of mic work = a thoroughly un-impressive set. If the military would have came and dropped a small nuke on this tent, they would have been doing us all a big favor. Duke Dumont: I had to wade through a sea of #sweatymollypeople to get into this tent... Wished I didnt. Not terrible, but not very good. Track selection was decent, but none of the mixes were even close to being in the same key. I was probably one of the few people that noticed. Glitch Mob: Hometown favorites, the LA based glitch-hop trio brought the energy and an awesome light show. Worth seeing if you get the chance. Chromeo: Dave1 and P-Thugg. Funkadelic rock-stars from another planet...actually just Canada. Theyve been in the mainstream for a decade now, so you should already know the deal. Nothing but positive vibes from these two... Two thumbs up! Bonobo: My intention was not to stop over at this tent, but did so by accident...glad I did. Im actually kind of mad that I didnt do my homework and catch his entire set. Watch out for this guy. Girl Talk: The reigning KING of mash-ups! Ive been listening to Greg Gillis since day 1 - I even have one of his records from 2005. He definitely brought the party (and even some of the crowd) on stage. As an average spectator, awesome! As a fellow DJ / producer... We all know what youre really doing up there lol Hot Since 82: Finally!!!! One house music DJ that played properly. Deep, rhythmic, seamless. Impressive!! Outkast: Watching these guys fit 20yrs of material into an 85 minute set makes even the loosest of Outkast fans remember just how many huge songs these guys have had over the years. Where were you the first time you heard Stankonia?
