Catholic Mass Readings of the day! MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD (SOLEMNITY) The Octave Day Of Christmas ~ Thursday 1 January 2015 Num 6:22-27 (The Lord Bless You) Ps 66:2-3,5,6,8 (Everlasting Blessing) Gal 4:4-7 (God sent His Son) Luke 2:16-21 MARY PONDERED The peace that we pray for, on New Year’s Day is the peace of God, given to human beings at the birth of the Saviour, and first announced by the angelic choir to the shepherds of Bethlehem. Yet, this peace is not facile. The Peace of God is the peace of the Messiah who became a sign of contradiction (Lk 2:34) that led Jesus to the cross and caused the heart of Mary to be pierced by a sword. Peace is Christ’s gift ~ the fruit of his passion, death, and resurrection. St Paul explains how Jesus became our peace: “For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one and broken down the barrier which used to keep them apart.” (Eph 2:14). The second grace of peace is a consequence of God’s blessings to Mary as the Mother of God. In her womb, she bore Jesus who is the perfect union of humanity and divinity. For this reason the Church places us under the protection of Mary just as Jesus has entrusted us to her on the cross where she became the mother of all believers. Our concerns become her concerns, too, as we read in John: “And from that hour the disciple took her into his concern.” (Jn 19:27). ~ Reflection of the holy Gospel according to Luke 2:16-21 youtu.be/Dd2oj3jSsEw?list=PLbIwWtTe1RjvIFIUgAygwRxRD0DYeiv0y
