Cebu City’s Night Market to open this Wednesday! (CEBU CITY - Public Information Office) Now on its 8th year, the third schedule of Night Market in Cebu City will open this Wednesday evening September 3, 2014 at the Colon Street. The Night Market is a project of Cebu City Mayor Michael L Rama which he started way back in 2007 during his stint as the City Vice Mayor. It aims to bring back the old glory of the oldest street in the Philippines - the Colon Street which was used to be the center of trade, commerce, and industry decades ago. Mayor Rama also wanted to ensure safety and security for everyone, thus police visibility, security personnel and intelligence network will be on prowl for the bad elements. The program is handled by the Cebu City Downtown Revitalization Project headed by its director George Chu. In an interview with the BARUGG News, Chu underscored that they will introduce new layout to focus on human traffic like a mall system as more crowd is expected flock in the area. Chu further shared that the Night Market will run from September 3 to 30 from 6 in the evening until 2 dawn time along the areas of City Savings Bank Colon Branch to the Gaisano Main Mall. At least 200 vendors and traders confirmed to partake in the activity that will offer various items such as souvenir items, school supplies, kitchen utensils, household needs, garments, toys, foot-wears, other dry goods, fruits, and street and finger foods and other delicacies, among several others. The activity, furthermore, is conducted four times yearly to wit, every month of January as part of the Sinulog celebration; every month of June as part of the Business month celebration and opening of the classes; every month of August or September in time of Ramadan celebration; and in every middle of November until December for the Christmas celebration.
