Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho makes frank admission over Lampard. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that Frank Lampard will struggle to play two games in four days because of his all-action style. The England midfielder looked jaded during the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Basel on Tuesday and could be given a rest for Sunday’s home game with Stoke City. “The way he plays it’s normal,” Mourinho said. “The way he played all his life. “We’ve got some players they play a lot of matches but they play a certain way. “Lampard’s is not a certain way. It’s his way and his way was always the 200 per cent way. It’s normal. “We have to control him. We have to support him and understand the best way to get it out of him.” Mourinho admitted that he was reluctant to play the midfielder against the Swiss outfit but with Marco Van Ginkel out injured and Michael Essien not in the Champions League squad, he was forced into it. “After the game against West Ham I was thinking the next game after two days is difficult,” he explained. “I had no other options. “It’s something we have to understand. We have in our squad a group of players – Lampard and Eto’o and Essien, Ashley Cole. “We have a group of players that we must get the best out of. Sometimes they need a rest.” John Terry has been back to his former self with many claiming that he is the English centre back most in form. And Mourinho believes Terry’s retirement from international football has enabled the defender to stay at the top of his game. He said: “I think John – the fact he doesn’t play international team and has a two week break to be prepared for the next period of matches that put him at a stability level to play every game.” -jla
