Chelsea have reignited their interest in Wayne Rooney and are now planning an audacious £40 million bid for the Manchester United striker. The England international asked to quit Old Trafford at the end of last season as it was reported that he was unhappy with the way the season panned out for him after he fell down the pecking order behind Robin van Persie, who instantly took the limelight since arriving from Arsenal. His transfer request alerted a host of clubs who sat up and took notice of this development. However after days of speculation, it was the London duo of Arsenal and Chelsea who were touted as his most likeliest destinations. Arsenal were linked to him briefly but the Gunners have channelized all their efforts in signing Liverpool’s Luis Suarez. Blues boss Jose Mourinho too admitted that he was interested in bringing in the 27-year old to spearhead his attack next season. As a result, he made two approaches for Rooney roughly a fortnight ago, the latest being worth £27 million which was however rebuffed by United, who are adamant on retaining him. The rumors since then have cooled off. Metro though report that Chelsea have now reignited their interest in Rooney and are determined to get him this time around with a whopping £40 million bid. Will it be enough this time around?
