Chengdu-Europe Railway prompts growth in logistics in Sichuan province DELEGATES to a logistics conference in Chengdu agreed that the Chengdu-Europe Railway will help to accelerate the development of Sichuans logistics industry, Xinhua reports. Since operations started in April, the railway has carried 2,214 FEU, mostly IT, auto parts, household appliances and garments from China in its 26 trips, according to Chengdu logistics official Chen Zhongwei. Some 150 manufacturers including Dell, Lenovo and TCL as well as freight forwarders like DHL and UPS now use the Chengdu-Euro rail service, which is fully utilised 90 per cent of the time, Mr Chen said. By the end of this year, running time of the Chengdu-Europe Railway will be reduced from 14 to only 12 days, according to Mr Chen. The trade between Sichuan and Europe are in rapid growth. Chengdu alone recorded trade value with Europe of more than US$9.3 billion in 2012, which was 160 per cent of value in 2010, Mr Chen noted. Another international logistics route, which is an expressway running from another southwestern city Kunming to Bangkok, was also in the spotlight at the conference. The Kunming-Bangkok expressway has been in operation for five years, but the smooth traffic was hindered by the Meikong River that runs across the expressway. But transport authority in Laos has announced that a bridge crossing the river connecting Lao city Houayxay and Thailands Chiang Khong will open to traffic in December. Transport time between Chengdu and Bangkok will hopefully be shortened to under 30 hours. The first high-speed railway in Thailand, which is from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima will start construction in 2014. After completion, the railway will join another high-speed railway that runs from Kunming to Laos capital city Vientiane. Another railway connecting Chengdu to Kunming is also in construction. After these lines have all been finished, a new international transport route from Sichuan will be formed. wincargo.cn wechat:wincargo
