Chikwanda Alleged to Fund Lungu Campaign with Corrupt Proceeds – Source Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has been identified as one the people that will bankroll the presidential campaign of Edgar Lungu of the Patriotic Front, a source close to State House alleges. Having rebuffed the approaches from the power cartel formed by Post Editor Fred M’membe and Finance Bank Chairman Rajan Mahtani, the campaign team for Lungu will now be using monies that were allegedly illegally obtained by Alexander Chikwanda through the Export and Import Bank (EXIM) of China, the source has disclosed. A separate source from Cabinet Office says the campaign funds being given to Lungu right now represent a commission Chikwanda got from Alsphalt Roads Zambia Limited, China Jianxhi, and Zulu Burrow limited companies. Earlier this year, Zambia Reports exposed a major corruption scandal involving several of these groups. The source said the money was commission after Chikwanda facilitated the awarding of tender for the expansion of the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport. Export and Import Bank of China has already released the money, the source alleges, and Chikwanda together with Mulenga Sata and Secretary To the Treasury Fredson Yamba got kickbacks and have since opened offshore accounts in Mauritius. “Edgar Lungu is now spending taxpayer’s money on his campaign. That is why they do not care whether Guy Scott supports them or not. They have money that EXIM Bank of China released for the airport project and they got the commission,” the source said. The source said Yamba even traveled to Mauritius soon after the burial of President Michael Sata. “These guys are dead scared of arrests if they lost power. The major financiers for the Edgar Lungu campaigns are ABC (Alexandra Chikwanda ) and contractors. Chikwanda is not worried about resources for campaigns. He has Chinese money,” the source said. The informant continued: “You are a journalist, ask Chileshe Kandeta the Ministry of Finance spokesperson where the money from Exim Bank of China for expansion of the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is right now. Challenge him to issue a press statement. He is on 0977796263,” the source said. The source said the only thing the contractor has done at the airport is bush clearing – there is no possible way to show they have performed the work they were contracted for. “They have just done bush clearing at the site nothing else. Kickbacks were received and stashed in Mauritius. Chikwanda will be arrested if he is not careful,” the source said. zambiareports/2014/12/05/chikwanda-alleged-fund-lungu-campaign-corrupt-proceeds-source/
