Choices... I hear all the time people telling me things they dont have. I dont have enough money, my clothes are out of style, my car is old etc.... We do this action of telling a negative story because (like all actions) we are trying to sooth negative beliefs about ourselves. We unconsciously think that if I tell someone my failings then ... 1. I am shielding myself from their negative judgement because I am beating them to the punch ... 2. I will get some soothing trough some sympathy ... None of this will ultimately help you to feel better! The only thing that causes your emotions are your thoughts - thoughts that you believe to be true. The next time you find yourself telling someone about all the things that are failing or things you dont have. Consciously STOP and then change your focus - Ask yourself What do I HAVE that is good? It is ALWAYS your choice of what you want to focus on. You can focus on what you dont have and thus feel bad or you can focus on what you have and this will make you feel better. Its your choice and its THAT simple! When you regularly and gently shift your focus to what you have, every time you catch yourself reciting these negative beliefs, you will start to retrain your brain to automatically focus on the good in your life. THAT is the only thing that will make you feel better.
