Cicero Commemorates 13th Anniversary of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at Community Park Thursday Night. The Town of Cicero will Celebrated the 200th Anniversary of the National Anthem and held Commemorated victims of the 13th Anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks during ceremonies Thursday evening, Sept. 11 at Community Park at 34th and Laramie Avenue. About 200 people attended. Speakers included: Emcee: John Kociolko, Cicero Historian and former Cicero Assessor; Cicero Trustee and Former Fire Chief Dennis Raleigh; Fire Chief Ron Opalecky; Police Chief Bernard Harrison. The color guard was offered by the American Legion Cicero Post 96 Veterans. Students of the J Morton High School District 201 Marching Band performed Patriotic Songs; and Clara Moldova, violinist and teacher from Masaryk Czech School, 23rd and 57th Street, performed for the audience. Cicero Town officials including Cicero Town President Larry Dominick, Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias, Supervisor Joe Virruso, Collector Fran Reitz, Assessor Emilio Cundari, and trustees Dennis Raleigh, Victor Garcia, Lorraine Walsh and Larry Banks offered their praise for first responders noting that among the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, 341 firefighters also died.
