Clarification on this post, thanks to my much loved niece, Jamilah. Jamilah RW Noor: I posted a link to an article on snopes about this. It isnt the temperature of the water or presence of ice that is dangerous, rather the dogs trying to cool themselves off by drinking too much too quickly after getting overheated. So water little and often and use other methods like keeping pups indoors or wetting them down to keep them from feeling the need to guzzle water.
