Clonakilty AFC Results Togher Celtic 3 Clonakilty AFC A 3. Clonakilty AFC A travelled to Dunmanway last Sunday to play Togher Celtic and came away with 3-3 draw after being 3-0 down at halftime. After defeating Drinagh the previous week Clon should of entered the game confidently but it was an extremely disjointed performance in the first half. Toghers incessant long ball game caused confusion in the Clon defence on multiple occasions. All three Togher goals were carbon copies of each other, with a backpedalling Clon defence unable to clear the long balls under pressure and Togher forwards capitalising on the defensive melee. Halftime 3-0 to Togher. The introdution at halftime of centre half Nick Harrison changed the game for Clon. He rendered the Togher long ball tactic impotent by winning eveything in the air. This gave more license to Clons creative players to move further up the pitch and start to threaten the Togher goal. Ten minutes into the 2nd half Clon pulled a goal back when a powerful Aidan Pendlebury effort on the edge of the box sgot a deflection off a Togher defender and looped over the keeper and into the net. Ten minutes after Clon reduced the deficit to 1 when a superb Paudi Horan effort from 20 yards went in off the keepers right hand post. With 20 minutes to go Clon were level when after a composed and patient move involving multiple Clon players Pendlebury got his 2nd goal with a great fininsh under the keeper from 10 yards out. Clon continued to be the dominant side in the final 20 minutes but a number of injuries disrupted Clons momentum and they were unable to carve out any clear cut chances in the final phase. Final score 3-3. Clon will have mixed emotions about the game as they will be troubled by the sub par first half performance and yet highly ecouraged by the composed and determined display in the 2nd. Man of the match was Nick Harrison whose introduction at halftime brought much needed assurance in possesion and aerial prowess to the Clon defence and laid the basis of a tremendous 2nd half performance. Next up for Clon is a home game against Mizen next Sunday. Team: Mike Sullivan, Chris McCarthy, Mark O Leary, Dave McCarthy, Shane Buttimer, Paudi Horan, Jacub Kiminiak, Timmy McDermott, Martin White, Aidan Pendlebury and Jack Keegan. Subs: Nick Harrison, Colin Lynch, Gearoid Calnan, Ferdia McCarthy, Ian O Driscoll and Chris Collins.
