Coach made me do these last week on the cable row machine and I cracked it with him because I could hardly get through the whole movement using just one plate. Whats the point of that? I said to him irritability. I cant feel a thing and I can barely move it! I prefer using dumbbells! Thats right, Coach replied calmly. Thats because its easier with dumbbells. In the bent arm position your bicep gets used. On this exercise you have tension on the tricep from start to finish. Thats why its hard. You need bigger triceps, he added. Ive got triceps, I told him still feeling irritated. Thats how I built them, indicating towards the dumbbell rack. You have, Coach agreed calmly. But they could be better. How often do you see a female up on stage with great triceps? Most of the girls dont train their chest so their triceps stay underdeveloped. Fine, I said and proceeded onto my second set. This time I was less uncoordinated and could actually get full range of movement. Im always like that even on familiar exercises thats why I always do one or two of what I call muscle activation sets. But doing this exercise today I really felt what Coach meant about tension all the way through. I walked away after doing 3 sets of 8-10 reps with massively pumped triceps.
