Collingwood English Institute 17 hours ago New Collingwood Director Mr. Michael Sharpe We are very proud to announce that Collingwood will have Mr. Michael Sharpe as its new Director, beginning July 1, 2014. Born in London, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Sharpe graduated from the University of Windsor with a B.A. in history, followed by a B.Ed. degree, and his TESL certificate. Mr. Sharpe has numerous foreign English teaching experiences, not only in Canada but Ghana, Liberia, and The Philippines. Mr. Sharpe also spent twenty-eight years working in Japan. He was hired in 1979 by the Japanese government to work for JICA at their training institute for JOCV volunteers in Nagano. In 1984 he joined Tokyo Language Institute and taught in Japanese junior and senior high schools, and was Manager of the Institute for one year. In 1989 Michael was one of the four founders of Universal Language Institute in Tokyo . In addition to being one of the company directors, he was appointed Programme Director in charge of training, hiring, and evaluating teachers, as well as designing courses for client schools, a post he held for eighteen years. In 2005 Mr. Sharpe bought a school in Roussey Keo and renamed it “WISE”. The school sponsored university scholarships for four students, who have since graduated. In 2007 Mr. Sharpe moved to Cambodia and was Director of “WISE” until he sold the school in 2009. In 2010 he was appointed Principal of American Pacific School and taught Grade 5 as well. In 2011 Mr. Sharpe joined the faculty of PPIU as a lecturer in Communication Skills, but left a year later to join New World Institute. Mr. Sharpe taught English at NWI-Bonna-Westline and TOEFL at EDI, which is affiliated with the Westline Group, before resigning in June to take over the position as Director of Collingwood.
