Comparing his peer figurative painters, such as Eric Fishl, David Sally, Lucian Freud, Alex Katz, Alice Neel or John Currin, I can not compliment on David Hockneys technical skills in painting. If we block his name, his painting would probably receive a C+ or B- in my painting class, considering I am a benevolent grader. However, His paintings have always attracted me, since I fist encountered his Pool series in 70s. It did again as I walked through his new paintings at the Pace. Why I like so much of the paintings that I consider technically bad? You tell me?
