Comrades, TODAY we need your immediate help!!! Hours ago, the U.S. Human Rights Network notified us that no travel or lodging assistance will be awarded to the Malcolm X Center and Jericho Movement to hold the USA accountable for continued criminalization, incarceration, and isolation of USA human rights defenders and political activists---political prisoners. We have successfully met two out of the four UN treaty review opportunities to put USA political prisoners before the world and hold the USA accountable for COINTELPRO/Civil Rights Era organizers. The third review, under the International Covenant for Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), is scheduled for the week of August 10th, in Geneva, Switzerland. We, our comrades, need us to be there! The report has been written and submitted for inclusion in the US Human Rights Networks joint report of more than 40 reports. Our success in getting and keeping political prisoners referenced in each review to date has come from onsite lobbying; i.e. Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), along with our written reports. In the UPR, USA political prisoners are sited as a distinct class of prisoners, there was no U.S. denial of their existence, and other governments explicitly called for their release. Under the ICCPR, Civil Rights Era political prisoners were referenced and their solitary confinement torture deplored. Herman Wallace was mentioned by name. The U.S. must report back on its use of solitary confinement. The opportunity to lobby, address CERD Committee members, examiners, and put before them question to raise is August 10 -12. The UN review of the USA treaty record, in Geneva, is scheduled for August 13-14.
