Concluding remarks of the reflections I shared at the fellowship I attend... Many religious tradition have spiritual practices that connect us to the four elements. They often ask us to invoke the elements as a way to consecrate a space and a time in preparation for a sacred ritual. In our journey as a sacred journey, lets be mindful that like air currents change, so should we be flexible enough to shift directions, yet remain constant enough to keep on sailing. To travel wide, and far, to be expansive willing to stretch more that we thought we were able. Every great fire starts out as a spark, a small flame, and keeps growing. Fire can be a destructive and uncontrollable force as it may be a source of comfort, a necessity to warm weary bodies in the winter, a catalyst to transform raw ingredients into feast tables. May we start our journey we care, lest we be agents of destruction, but move and with passion...like the fire that at times burns hot, at times dies down to embers that can easily be rekindle into a dynamic fire, may we be willing to let ourselves be transformed as we also transformed those around us through our actions. As a symbol of life, water occupies a central space in our evolution of life. It is also a central element in our religious tradition. One of the most meaningful UU rituals to me is the Water Communion, which usually takes place during Ingathering Sunday. In this ritual, we bring water from places where we have been to be combined in a fountain to commemorate the interconnection of our lives. May we be mindful in our journeying of the ways our lives are joined with others, both earthly and divine. Finally, take a fistful of earth...be reminded not only of where you come from, your origin, but be mindful of the ground on which you move. Of the place that sustains your life...dig deeper for sustenance and be fruitful so that others can find noursihemt in your life... May it be so, blessed be...
