Congratulations to everyone who selected a) Computed tomography of the chest, upper abdomen, and adrenal glands as the correct answer to yesterdays challenge! Computed tomography of the chest, upper abdomen, and adrenal glands is the preferred initial modality for evaluation of a lung nodule incidentally discovered on an abdominal CT. PET and PET/CT although frequently used, are not necessary for all patients with suspected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Their use is preferred in a targeted population of patients with suspected NSCLC (eg, pre-operative staging for resectable cancers). Imaging for distant metastatic disease should initially be symptom-directed. Come back tomorrow to see if you know the answer to our next challenge!
