Consular Officer The British High Commission in Singapore is part of a world-wide network of 230 offices representing British prosperity, security and consular interests overseas. The Consular section provides advice, assistance and support to British nationals when things go wrong whilst in Singapore. You will be a member of a busy four person consular team based in Singapore, reporting to the Vice Consul. Full training for the role will be provided, delivered in a variety of ways; classroom based, on the job and e-learning. Once trained, there may be the opportunity to travel in the region providing short periods of temporary cover for other British consular sections. Main Duties • Handling and monitoring public enquiries, including face-to-face, telephone and written • Provide consular assistance to British Nationals in Singapore, including hospital, mortuary and prison visits. • Processing Emergency Travel Documents and other official letters • Liaising with local Singaporean authorities and organisations • Updating the Consular section pages on the British High Commission website • Back up counter assistant and cashier Requirements • Experience of a customer service role in an international organisation or NGO would be an advantage • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Strong planning, co-ordinating and time management skills with very good attention to detail • Strong IT skills (MS Office), experience in websites and social media preferred • Highly flexible to changing priorities and able to work in multi-disciplinary team • Excellent English language skills both written and spoken.
