Courtesy of my cousin, George L. Cooper: Today, 140 years ago my Great Grandfather, Cpl Thomas Hines Kennon, was one of the lucky ones that got to attend the very 1st Regimental reunion of Confederate Veterans of the 3rd Georgia Regiment in Union Park, Ga. It was a two day event. I had hoped to be there today but it didnt work out. I have included pictures of the monument in Union Point, Ga, a picture of Company H with Thomas holding the battle flag that is stored in the capitol building in Atlanta, and then the Address that Col Claiborne Sneed gave on the 31st. Thomas fought in most of the famous battlefields of the Civil War including Gettysburg. I was able to walk Picketts Charge in Gettysburg last fall and it was a very moving experience for me. Thomas was the Color Corporal and had to carry the flag for his company. He had to climb fences, dodge bullets and shoot at the enemy. It is truly amazing that he survived. Thomas is the one that is in the front row and is 3rd from the far right. The uniforms that they wore for this reunion were developed just for the survivors of the war. George Cooper
