Cracking press release from our Press Officer Zoe Burn zoeburn Motodex vows to keep fighting after return to Superstock action THE Motodex Performance First BMW team has vowed to keep on fighting after making a brave return to the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship following a tough six weeks. The team’s future looked in doubt last month after Germany-based owner and team principal Tony Dexter’s home and business was left devastated by the floods which hit parts of Europe in early June. His home and Motodex business suffered huge flooding, made worse when a sewerage pipe broke nearby and it looked as though the racing would have to be put on hold as he fought to rebuild his business. Yet against the odds the team was back on the grid for Round Five of the championship at the Snetterton 300 circuit over the weekend, with rider Stefan Cappella on board the team’s BMW S1000RR. But it was to prove a tough weekend for the Bavarian squad. Cappella qualified 38th on the grid for Sunday’s 14-lap race, which was held in sunny and very hot conditions at the Norfolk track. However shortly after the green light he developed a gearbox problem which meant he was unable to change down from sixth to fifth gear, severely hampering his chances of moving forward. With gritty determination he was able to make up a couple of places, but then became one of several riders who were caught out by oil on the track at Montreal and crashed out and into retirement on Lap Nine. “It was one of those things, we had the gearbox problem and then I went down on some oil,” said Cappella. “I’m fine, the bike doesn’t look too badly damaged but it’s a shame for everyone when your weekend ends this way. “There are some positives to take away. Until the race when we had the problems, the bike was running well, we were getting faster in each session. The race let us down a little bit but we’ve just got to move on and look ahead to the next one.” The team plans to return for the next round at Brands Hatch, Kent, in a fortnight as Dexter battles on to try and raise the funds needed to see out the remainder of the season. With the help of family, he will be opening a UK branch of Motodex Performance First– his firm which sells leading sportsbike products for road and track – as he works to rebuild what was lost in the floods . To kick that off, the company have secured UK exclusive rights to the new and innovative Eco-Touch waterless cleaning products. “We trialled the products for the first time this weekend and the results were simply astonishing, the bike and truck looked absolutely immaculate after only a few minutes work, superb,” said Tony. “They say bad luck comes in threes so I think we’ve had ours if you count the floods, the sewer breaking and then the gearbox!” he said. “The team had a very good weekend with further improvements to the bike setup as we gain more knowledge of the S1000RR but it was just unfortunate what happened to Stef in the race and something you can’t control. “I’m very much of the philosophy that it’s easy to get a top class rider who will put the bike up at the front, but for me the satisfaction comes from bringing in a rider who is just coming up like Stef is and giving him the chance. This field is very strong and even just to qualify is as good as a win at this stage, so the team should be proud of what we’ve achieved this weekend. “From here we are heading back to Germany to keep working on rebuilding Motodex and we’re all working hard to secure the funds to complete the season. My niece Sara and her husband Dan are helping us by throwing their time into Motodex and will be running the new UK branch as most of our customers are UK-based. “We will be back for Brands Hatch in a fortnight and hopefully by then we may be a step closer to finding the budget to see out the rest of the 2013 season. I want to thank everyone involved in the team for their hard work, patience and dedication over the last month or so – here’s to bigger and better things in the coming months!” For more information on Motodex visit the website: motodex.eu Photo credits: Gareth Davies.
